Central Otago Freeride – Singletrack 4 Day Tour
A tour for all serious single-track junkies, those who want a bit more action, riding some of the Mecca’s of mountain biking in the South Island of New Zealand.
Day 1 - Pick up from Queenstown, Wanaka or Alexandra, then its just a short drive to the start of the days ride at Wanaka’s Sticky Forest and surrounding trails - a maze of technical trails and jumps that will test the best of riders. From here we travel to Clyde and then ride from Clyde, along a river track, to Alexandra for overnight accommodation.
Day 2 - The Knobby Range
Lonely Planet described Alexandra as a Mountain Bike Heaven; we locals know it as The Linger & Die. This is the ride every biker raves about!
We drive south to Roxburgh to start our ride near the top of the Knobby Range. A mixture of high country tussock trails and rocky downhills see us descend towards Little Valley. Then it’s a maze of single-track descents, ranging from intermediate to extreme, which take us to the Shaky Bridge and the end of the mornings ride. In the afternoon, time and energy permitting, we will explore more single tracks in the Linger & Die area.
Day 3 -
A real Altitude Adventure, this is one of the highest rideable mountains in the south. Starting with a scenic shuttle ride to the top of the Old Man Range where you are guaranteed spectacular views and an even more spectacular downhill. A 1700m brake burning descent from the monolithic obelisk rock, down awesome fast flowing trails winding down to the valley floor below - WICKED!
Adrenalin still pumping, we head off to Clyde for some shuttle runs on Altitude’s downhill and super D trails.
We finish off the day with a drive to historic Naseby for our overnight accommodation.
Day 4 -
We start the day in Naseby, the Mecca of single track and freeride mountain biking - as seen on the Drop-In T.V. series. We ride great forestry trials and canyons in the morning and then head off towards Queenstown to ride trails that will test your skills – with small jumps, skinny’s and flowing berms.
Tour finishes and we drop you off in Queenstown.
